16 May 2009 Cumnor 2 beat Shipton 2 by 6 wickets
Shipton 203 all out (C.E. Brain 54, S. Slade 42 -2, C. Ricks 59 -4) Cumnor 204 - 4 (M. Kirsten 101, I. Belcher 39, Dickens 62 -2)
On a green seamer Shipton won the toss and elected to bat. This was just what we needed to kick start our 2009 season. Jules bowled a brilliant spell with figures of 35 – 1 in 12 overs and was very unlucky not to get more wickets. Jack was very unlucky not get a wicket in his 6 over spell. Zubair and Ricksie then came into the attack and bowled a very tidy line and length. Ricksie was kept on despite some abuse from team mates and bowled a very good 15 over spell. Steve Slade joined Ricksie and was his usual wily self. Slade and Ricks bowled out their overs with us bowling Shipton out in the 53rd over.
Kirsten and Belch got us off to a flying but albeit lucky start. Kirsten being dropped on 1, 3 and 7. Belch made a very quick and controlled 39 before chipping one to square leg for a very soft dismissal. Evans came to the crease and his first 3 balls all fizzed passed the outside edge with some very good bowling from Cooper the Shipton opener. Evans made 21 before chipping one straight to mid-on. Squiddy joined Kirsten and played two glorious shots to get him off the mark. Kirsten then edge one to slip with the field pushed back on 99, (after recounting it turned out he made 101). Steve Slade strode out and quickly finished the game.
