CHALLOW AND CHILDREY V CUMNOR TUESDAY JULY 1 Cumnor's winning run continued last night with a victory over a useful and youthful Challow side at their picturesque ground near Wantage. Winning the toss and choosing to bat, Cumnor lost Harry Ackland early doors but were hardly troubled thereafter with contributions from, Max Mannering (25 no. again), Seb Evans (19), Max Robson (Guest star 24 no.) and Archie Wimborne (16 no.). Runs were scored at a steady rate - the Cumnor Innings finishing on 97/2.. Challow lost early wickets and were never really in the hunt. My mission to bowl everybody failed miserably when I forgot to give Seb Evans a bowl. With our usual keeper Conor Grant away on International duty (camping in the New Forest) we shuffled our pack but still bowled and fielded really well. All boys (except Seb) got an over or two and wickets were taken by Charlie Cassetari and Mark Briggs (who, with his newly streaked hair reminded me of a young Shane Warne). There were also two run outs. Challows innings closed on 82/4. Thanks to Scott Willoughby and Patrick McKenna for playing at short notice. I believe the surgery performed late last night to put Patricks knee back in place went very well.!! A good performance by all concerned - we have a provisional friendly booked with Oxford Downs at their ground on Aug 19 - I will confirm more details later. Well done everybody and thanks to all parents for their support. Especially our stand in scorer Ed Robson... Regards |
