Cumnor Cricket Club has a thriving Youth section and welcomes aspiring cricketers from age 7 through 17. We are very proud of our fine tradition of producing top class young cricketers who have progressed through County teams from Under 10 to full Minor Counties cricket with Oxfordshire, and indeed the first class game with Simon Cook now playing professional cricket with Kent County Cricket Club.
We run coaching sessions for 7 - 12 year olds on Thursday evenings, from the end of April to the end of August. These sessions will run from 5.30-7.30pm. The emphasis will be on the introduction and development of basic skills and having fun! Coaching will be run by experienced senior players, led by a Level 3 coach; the sessions begin on 24th April.
Wednesday nights will be for the 13+ age group, although it is intended that the most promising cricketers from the younger age groups will be invited to access these sessions. On Wednesdays the emphasis will be on improving individual skills and the coaching will be undertaken by coaches who have achieved ECB Level 2 status or higher. The sessions will involve tuition and practice in small groups and will run for sixteen weeks, beginning on 23rd April, between 6pm and 8pm.
Players have the opportunity to participate in competitive and friendly matches at Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 levels, and older players can progress through our Sunday afternoon ‘Youth development’ squad into full Cherwell league cricket. With four teams playing in the Cherwell league ranging from division 9 to the very top the club offers unrivalled opportunity for players to progress to a very high standard.
We are delighted ian Metcalfe has agreed to be our Youth Cricket Co-ordinator for 2008. Ian has helped with the youth teams at all levels and will be the key focal point for any queries or questions you may have, as well as liaising with the age-group managers.
