NPower Village Knockout, Oxfordshire Champions 2008 |
 |
 Great Tew 6-a-Side Champions 2007, 2008 |
On Sunday Cumnor narrowly lost to Shipton in the final of the Oxford Region of the Village Cup. Batting first Cumnor got off to a steady start before losing Jimmy Nielson to a soft catch at point. Adam Cook joined James Lee at the crease and the two left handers scored steadily before James was undone by some slow spin from veteran Jon Hartley. Jamie Douglas and Cookie began to put the squeeze on Shipton before Cookie was run out attempting a quick single. With 2 further runouts the pressure was on and only a half century from Jamie D gave Cumnor any real hope with the score 173 looking well below par on a reasonable batting surface. Ayaz Khan bowled with great pace and with Tommo beating the bat regularly there was hope, but Andy Hemming looked assured for Shipton and reached another Village Knockout ton just before the end. Adam Cook bowled extremely well, piling on the pressure for Cumnor and this told with vital wickets keeping Cumnor in with a shout. George Glew bowled a tidy spell towards the end, but the total was always within Shiptons grasp, reaching it with 7 balls to go.

3rd XI Division 7 Champions
Congratulations to Simon Howarth and all those who featured in the 3rd XI after winning the Division 7 title - something that looked most unlikely after the first game of the season - a crushing 8 wicket defeat at home to Cropredy. That in fact turned out to be the only defeat of the campaign. (Apologies to those of you confused by the photo - you may be misled by the sight of the skipper in pads. He has suffered on occasion from some deluded notion that he can bat!)
